The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communica tions met this day at 9:30 a.m., in Room 256-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Lise Bacon, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Bacon, Callbeck, Cools, Finestone, P.C., LaPierre, Morin, Oliver and Spivak (9).

In attendance: Joseph Dion, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 30, 2001, the committee proceeded to study Bill C-14. (See Issue No. 10, Wednesday, June 6, 2001, for full text of the Order of Reference.)

WITNESSES:

From the Canadian Shipowners Association:

Donald N. Morrison, President;

Rejean Lanteigne, Vice-President, Operations.

From the Canadian Yachting Association:

Micheal Vollmer, Vice-President, Recreation.

The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.

The Canadian Shipowners Association and the Canadian Yachting Association submitted a brief.

At 11:25, the committee proceeded in camera.

The Honourable Senator Spivak moved the adoption of the Fifth report of the committee to be presented today by the Chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 11:30 a.m., It was agreed - That the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

The Canadian Shippers Council and The Interested Carrier Working Group submitted a brief.
