The Standing Senate committee on National Security and Defence met this day, in camera, at 10 a.m. in room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Kenny presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Atkins, Banks, Cordy, Day, Kenny, Meighen and Wiebe (7).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Grant Purves, Research Officer and John Christopher, Research Officer; Major General (Ret'd) Keith McDonald, Senior Military Adviser; Mr. Paul Dingledine, National Security Adviser; Chief Superintendent Jean-Pierre Witty, RCMP Liaison Officer; Veronica Morris, Office of Senator Kenny; Daniel Charbonneau, Committee Clerk; Marcy Zlotnick, Committee Clerk; and Sarah Johnson, Page; Joanne Lavigne, Console Operator; Harriett Smith, Interpreter and Huguette Lemieux, Interpreter.
The committee proceeded to consider a draft report.
At 1:15 p.m. the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 30, 2002, the Committee proceeded upon its examination on the need for a national security policy for Canada. (See Issue No. 1, Monday, November 4, 2002, for the full text of the Order of Reference.)
