The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met in camera at 9:34 a.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Murray, P.C., presiding, for the purpose of discussing a draft report.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bolduc, Comeau, Ferretti Barth, Finnerty, Gauthier, Maheu, Murray, P.C. (7).

In attendance: Mr. Guy Beaumier and Steven Laurent, Research Officers, Library of Parliament.

The committee undertook discussion of its draft of the "Second Interim Report on Main Estimates 2003-2004."

It was moved by the Honourable Senator Finnerty that the draft of the "Second Interim Report on the Main Estimates 2003-2004" as revised by the committee be adopted and presented by the Chairman to the Senate.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 9:45 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on June 4, 2003, the committee undertook consideration of Bill C-28, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 18, 2003.

Mr. Roger Tassé made an opening statement and, with Mr. St-Cyr, answered questions from members of the committee.

Mr. Sauvé and Mr. Desaulniers made an opening statement and answered questions from members of the committee.

Mr. Simon Potter made an opening statement and answered questions from members of the committee.

At 11:16 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
