The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day, at 7:03 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Cochrane, Comeau, Cook, Hubley, Phalen, Robichaud, P.C., and Watt (8).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Officer, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 13, 2004, the committee continued its study on matters relating to straddling stocks and fish habitat. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 1, dated February 11, 2004.)

WITNESSES:

From the Trade Commission of Chile:

Angel C. Gallardo, Deputy Trade Commissioner.

From Great Global Minds:

Cheryl L. Taylor, President;

Carlos A. Godoy L., Managing Partner;

Tor-Eddie Fossbakk, Advisor on aquaculture.

Ms. Taylor and Messrs. Godoy and Fossbakk made a presentation and answered questions.

At 8:56 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day, in camera, at 7:00 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Gerald J. Comeau, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Comeau, Cook, Hubley, Mahovlich, Phalen, Trenholme Counsell, and Watt (8).

In attendance: Claude Emery, Research Officer, Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, February 13, 2004, the committee continued its examination of matters relating to quota allocations and benefits to Nunavut and Nunavik fishermen. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the Committee, Issue No. 1, dated February 11, 2004.)

Pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered a draft report.

It was moved:

That the committee adopt the draft report and that the Chair be authorized to make the changes discussed and additional minor typographical and grammatical corrections without affecting the content.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

At 9:09 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
