The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at 6:22 p.m., this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Nick G. Sibbeston, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Banks, Gustafson, Hubley, Sibbeston, St. Germain, P.C., and Watt (6).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: Lisa Patterson, Mary Hurley and Frédéric Beauregard-Tellier.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 4, 2004, the committee began its study on the involvement of aboriginal communities and businesses in economic development activities in Canada.
WITNESS:
Dalhousie University:
Professor Fred Wien, Director, Atlantic Aboriginal Health Research Program.
Professor Wien answered questions.
At 7:08 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:10 p.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda.
At 7:35 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
The committee considered the following draft budget application for its legislative work for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005.
Professional and Other Services $ 10,300 Transportation and Communications $ 7,870 All Other Expenditures $ 1,500 Total $ 19,670
The Honourable Senator Gustafson moved that the committee adopt the draft budget application for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The committee considered the following draft budget application for its study on involvement of Aboriginal Communities and Businesses in Economic Development Activities in Canada for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2005.
Professional and Other Services $ 15,300 Transportation and Communications $ 87,655 All Other Expenditures $ 3,000 Total $ 105,955
The Honourable Senator Hubley moved that the committee adopt the draft budget application for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The committee considered the following draft budget application for its legislative work for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2006.
Professional and Other Services $ 17,300 Transportation and Communications $ 17,740 All Other Expenditures $ 1,500 Total $ 36,540
The Honourable Senator Gustafson moved that the committee adopt the draft budget application for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
