The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 5:02 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Eyton, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Hubley, Mercer, Mitchell, Oliver, Peterson and Tkachuk (10).
In attendance: Frédéric Forge, Marc Leblanc, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of the present state and the future of agriculture and forestry in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Colleen Ross, Women's President;
Barry Robinson, District Director, Distric 8 (Ottawa Valley);
Jack Hoogenboom, President, Local No. 1 — Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry, Prescott, Russell and Carleton Counties.
Mr. Wells and Ms. Ross made statements and together with Messrs Robinson and Hoogenboom responded to questions.
At 6:30 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Chair made a statement.
It was agreed that Minister Emerson's written statement from June 6, 2006 be appended to the proceedings of June 6, 2006.
Mr. Van Tassel made a statement and together with Ms. Moran responded to questions.
The Honourable Senator Segal moved that the committee concur in the following budget application for its study of legislation and that the Chair be authorized to submit the said budget to the Senate Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
Professional and Other Services $ 10,000 Transportation and Communication 1,000 All Other Expenditures 1,000 TOTAL $ 12,000
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
