The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 7:02 p.m., this day, in room 2, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Christensen, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Milne, Segal and Tkachuk (7).

In attendance: Frédéric Forge, Marc Leblanc, Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

WITNESSES:

As an individual:

Harry Cummings, Professor, School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph;

Anthony Fuller, Professor, School of Environmental Design and Rural Development, University of Guelph.

Messrs. Cummings and Fuller each made a statement and together responded to questions.

At 8:58 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft agenda.
