The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 7:04 p.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Biron, Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Mahovlich and Segal (6).
In attendance: Marc Leblanc and Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)
WITNESSES:

Christoph Weder, Rancher.
Mr. Marit made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:59 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:06 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Weder made a statement and answered questions.
At 8:54 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:58 p.m, the committee resumed and proceeded in camera.
In accordance with rule 92(2)(e), the committee considered its draft future agenda.
The committee discussed its plans for travel within Canada in 2007.
It was agreed that given the committee's earlier decision to set aside rural Aboriginal poverty issues in light of the work of the Aboriginal Peoples Committee, that no organization or person whose primary purpose is the representation of aboriginal groups or issues be invited to appear before the committee.
At 9:19 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
