The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 7:02 p.m., this day, in room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Biron, Callbeck, Dawson, Fairbairn, P.C., Mercer, Milne and Oliver (7).
In attendance: Marc Leblanc and Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)
WITNESSES:
Canadian 4-H Council (by video conference):
Marie Logan, President.
Green Party of Canada:
David Chernushenko, Senior Deputy to the Leader;
Jim McKenzie, Agricultural Policy Analyst and Member;
Kylah Dobson.
The Chair made an opening statement.
Ms. Logan made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:53 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:55 p.m., the committee resumed.
Mr. Chernushenko, Mr. McKenzie and Ms. Dobson each made a statement and, together, answered questions.
At 9 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

At 9:48 a.m., pursuant to rule 92(2)(e), the committee proceeded in camera to discuss a draft agenda.
It was agreed that the committee travel to the Territories the week of September 17-21, 2007.
At 9:54 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
