The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 7:17 p.m., this day, in Room 9, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Chaput, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Mahovlich, Oliver and Peterson (6).

In attendance: Marc Leblanc and Marc-André Pigeon, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 the committee continued its consideration of rural poverty in Canada. (For complete text of Order of Reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 6.)

WITNESSES:

As an individual:

Raymond Pong, Research Director, Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research, Laurentian University.

Hockey Canada:

Paul Carson, Director, Development.

The Chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Pong made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:18 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 8:22 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mr. Carson made a statement and answered questions.

At 9:27 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
