The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 12:08 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the Chair, the Honourable Consiglio Di Nino, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Corbin, Cordy, Di Nino, Fraser, Hays, P.C., Joyal, P.C., Keon, McCoy, Robichaud, P.C., Smith, P.C. and Stratton (12).
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Banks (1).
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament: James Robertson.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 8, 2006, the committee continued its examination of the motion that whenever the Senate is sitting, the proceedings of the upper chamber, like those of the lower one, be televised, or otherwise audio-visually recorded, so that those proceedings can be carried live or replayed on CPAC, or any other television station, at times that are convenient for Canadians. The witnesses responded to questions.
At 1:20 p.m., Senator Di Nino announced his resignation as chair of the committee.
Pursuant to rule 88, the clerk of the committee presided over the election of a new chair.
The Honourable Senator Smith, P.C., moved that the Honourable Senator Keon be Chair of this committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The Honourable Senator Keon assumed the chair.
At 1:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
