The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at 9:40 a.m. this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Gerry St. Germain, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Campbell, Dallaire, Dyck, Gustafson, Hubley, Lovelace Nicholas, Peterson, Segal, Sibbeston, and St. Germain, P.C. (10).

Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Adams (1).

In attendance: Tonina Simeone, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)

Grand Council of the Crees:

Brian Craik, Director of Federal Relations;

Bill Namagoose, Executive Director.

Mr. Eetoolook, Mr. Campbell, Mr. Fenge, Mr. Craik and Mr. Namagoose each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:12 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
