The Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples met at 6:20 p.m. this day, in room 160-S, Centre Block, the acting chair, the Honourable Elizabeth Hubley, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Dallaire, Dyck, Gustafson, Hubley, Lovelace Nicholas, Peterson, and Segal (7).
In attendance: Tonina Simeone, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, November 21, 2007, the committee continued its consideration of the federal government's constitutional, treaty, political and legal responsibilities (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 1.)
WITNESSES:

Anne Drost, Partner, Fasken, Martineau, DuMoulin LLP.
The Honourable Senator Dyck moved that Senator Hubley be elected acting chair of the committee until the return of the chair or deputy chair.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
Mr. Chrétien and Ms Drost each made a statement and answered questions.
At 7:42 p.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the chair.
