The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce met this day at 10:30 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Greene, Massicotte, Moore, Nancy Ruth, Oliver, Ringuette, Smith (Saurel) and Tkachuk (9).

In attendance: Adriane Yong and Brett Stuckey, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator Oliver moved:

That the Honourable Senator Smith (Saurel) be the acting chair of the committee.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The Honourable Senator Smith (Saurel) took the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, the committee continued its review of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (S.C. 2000, c. 17), pursuant to section 72 of the said Act. (For the complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 9.)

WITNESSES:

Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA):

Richard C. Gauthier, President and Chief Executive Officer.

Boating Ontario Association:

Jeff Wilcox, Governor.

Heffel Fine Art Auctioneers:

Andrew Gibbs, Ottawa Representative.

The acting chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Gibbs made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Gauthier made a statement and answered questions.

Mr. Wilcox made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:42 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
