The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 5:41 p.m. in room 257, East Block, the chair, the Honourable Richard Neufeld, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Fraser, Galvez, Griffin, Massicotte, Mockler, Neufeld, Patterson, Seidman and Wetston (10).

In attendance: Sam Banks, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, the committee began its examination of Bill S-229, An Act respecting underground infrastructure safety.

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Grant Mitchell, Senator, sponsor of the bill.

Canadian Common Ground Alliance:

Mike Sullivan, Executive Director.

The Honourable Senator Mitchell and Mr. Sullivan each made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:48 p.m., the meeting was adjourned to the call of the chair.
