The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met in camera this day at 5:03 p.m., in room 160-S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Jim Munson, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Cordy, Frum, Hubley, Martin, Munson and Ngo (8).
In attendance: Jean-Philippe Duguay and Julian Walker, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.
It was agreed that senators' staff be allowed to stay in the room.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee considered a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the committee adopt the draft first report, prepared in accordance with rule 12-26(2) and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be authorized to make necessary editorial revisions and approve the final text before tabling in the Senate.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for the following order of reference:
To monitor issues relating to human rights and, inter alia, to review the machinery of government dealing with Canada's international and national human rights obligations.
At 6:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
