The Standing Senate Committee on Human Rights met this day at 11:33 a.m., in room 9, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Jane Cordy, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Ataullahjan, Boyer, Cordy, Hartling, Martin, Ngo and Pate (8).
In attendance: Jean-Philippe Duguay, Erin Shaw, and Ryan van den Berg, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Services, Library of Parliament; Síofra McAllister, Communications Officer, Senate Communications Directorate.
Also present: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, May 3, 2018, the committee beganits examination of Bill C-309, An Act to establish Gender Equality Week.
WITNESSES:
Sven Spengemann, Member of Parliament for Mississauga—Lakeshore, sponsor of the bill.
Status of Women Canada:
Nanci-Jean Waugh, Director General, Communications and Public Affairs Directorate.
As individuals:
Anjum Mullick, Director of Engineering Services, Business Planning and Support, City of Edmonton (by video conference).
Annie Chau, Project Coordinator, Advancing Women's Equality; Antigonish Women's Resource Centre & Sexual Assault Services Association.
The chair made a statement.
Mr. Spengemann and Ms. Waugh made statements and answered questions.
At 12:07 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 12:25 p.m., the committee resumed.
It was agreed that Senate Communications be authorized to take photos during the hearing.
Ms. Mullick and Ms. Chau made statements and answered questions.
At 1:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
