Introductions
The ink and watercolour drawing Introductions depicts Senate Speaker the Honourable Raymonde Gagné introducing King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Senate leadership as the King arrives at the Senate of Canada Building to deliver the Speech from the Throne.
Set in the Speaker’s dining room, the drawing’s loose pen work and rich colour palette depict the formal event in a fluid and expressive manner. At the same time, artist Serge Belet captured small but significant details, including the maple-leaf carpet and the Canadian honours worn by the dignitaries.
A smaller companion drawing shows the Usher of the Black Rod guiding the Royal Couple and the governor general into the room.
Mr. Belet is a prolific travel sketch artist who trained at France’s École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Paris Belleville.
