The Honourable Senator Arnot, Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, presented the committee’s ninth report (Bill S-6, A fourth Act to harmonize federal law with the civil law of Quebec and to amend certain Acts in order to ensure that each language version takes into account the common law and the civil law, without amendment).
The Honourable Senator Clement moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Coyle, that the bill be placed on the Orders of the Day for third reading at the next sitting.

The Honourable Senator Wells (Alberta) moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator White, that the bill be read for the third time.
After debate,
In amendment, the Honourable Senator Bernard moved, seconded by the Honourable Senator Sorensen:
That Bill C-9 be not now read a third time, but that it be amended in clause 4, on page 2, by replacing lines 4 and 5 with the following:
“(b) the Nazi Hakenkreuz, the Nazi double Sig-Rune, also known as the SS bolts, or a noose; or”.

“discussion, publication or debate.”.
