The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 3:25 p.m. in Room 256-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bacon, Corbin, Grafstein, Stewart and Stollery. (6)
Other senator present: The Honourable Senator Donald H. Oliver. (1)
Also present: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament, Mr. Anthony Chapman, Economics Division.
In attendance: Official Senate reporters.
WITNESSES:
From the Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada:
Mr. William Saywell, President and Chief Executive Officer.
From Canada-Japan Trade Council:
Mr. Klaus Pringsheim, President; and
Mr. Martin Thornell, Vice-President.
Messrs Saywell, Pringsheim and Thornell made a presentation and answered questions.
The Chairman informed members that Bill C-54 had been referred to the Committee and that hearings into the proposed legislation would be held on Tuesday, November 5, 1996.
At 5:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
