The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 4:07 p.m. in Room 256-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Bolduc, Carney, De Bané, Grafstein, Stewart and Stollery.(7)
Also present: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mr. Anthony Chapman, Economics Division.
In attendance: Official Senate reporters.

From the International Centre for Human Rights and Democratic Development:
Mrs. Maureen O'Neil, President.
From the North-South Institute:
Mrs. Heather Gibb, Senior Researcher.
From the Canadian Council for International Co-operation:
Mrs. Betty Plewes, President and CEO.
The Committee resumed consideration of its order of reference respecting relations between Canada and the Asia-Pacific Region.
Mrs. O'Neil, Mrs. Gibb and Mrs. Plewes made a presentation and answered questions.
The Committee considered its future business, namely a) the meeting scheduled for the following day at 3:15 p.m. to consider the study on the relations between Canada and the Asia-Pacific Region; b) the upcoming referral to the Committee of Bill C-61 and the witnesses that would eventually be invited to appear; and c) the hearings scheduled for Vancouver in February 1997.
At 5:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
