The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 4:09 p.m. in Room 256-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourables Senators Andreychuk, Corbin, De Bané, Grafstein, Stewart and Stollery. (6)

Also present: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mr. Anthony Chapman, Economics Division.

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESSES:

From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade:

Len Edwards, Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade and Economic Policy; and

John Klassen, Director General, APEC Bureau.

The committee resumed consideration of its order of reference pertaining to relations between Canada and the Asia Pacific region (See committee proceedings of October 2, 1996, issue No. 8).

The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.

At 5:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
