The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs met this day at 3:23 p.m. in Room 256-S of the Centre Block, the Chairman, the Honourable John B. Stewart, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Andreychuk, Carney, Corbin, Doody, Kinsella, Stewart and Stollery. (7)

Also present: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mr. Anthony Chapman, Economics Division.

In attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

WITNESS:

From the Joint Centre for Asian Studies, York University:

Amitav Acharya, Professor.

The committee resumed consideration of its Order of Reference pertaining to relations between Canada and the Asia Pacific region (See committee proceedings of October 2, 1996, issue No. 8).

Professor Acharya made a presentation and answered questions.

At 4:55 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
