The Standing Committee on Banking, Trade and commerce met at 3:45 p.m. this day, in Room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Senator Kolber, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Eyton, Fitzpatrick, Furey, Kelleher, P.C., Kolber, Kroft, Mahovlich, Meighen, Poulin and Tkachuk (10).

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament, Law and Government Division: Mr. Geoff Kieley, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, February 5, 2002, the committee continued its examination of Bill C-23, An Act to amend the Competition Act and the Competition Tribunal Act.

WITNESSES:

Mr. George N. Addy.

From the Canadian Bar Association:

Mr. Tim Kennish, Chair, National Competition Law Section;

Ms Tamra Thomson, Director, Legislation and Law Reform.

Mr. Addy and the witnesses from the Canadian Bar Association made statements and answered questions.

At 5:15 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
