The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Natural Resources met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in the Glen 202 Room of the Telus Convention Centre in Calgary, the Chair, the Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Banks, Kenny, Spivak, and Taylor (5).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers, Research Officer.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on March 1, 2001, the committee proceeded to examine issues as may arise from time to time relating to energy, the environment and natural resources, including the continuation and completion of the study on Nuclear Reactor Safety. (See Issue No. 1, Thursday, February 22, Tuesday, February 27 and Thursday, March 22, 2001, for full text of the Order of Reference.)

Glen Booth, Chief Economist;

Bill Bingham, Team Leader, Gas Commodities Business Unit;

From the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers:

Greg Stringham, Vice President, Markets and Fiscal Policy.

From Canadian Hydro Developers:

John Keating, Chief Executive Officer.

The witnesses made presentations and answered questions.

The witnesses from the National Energy Board, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, and Canadian Hydro submitted briefs.

At 11:53 a.m., it was agreed that the committee adjourn to the call of the Chair.
