The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment, and Natural Resources met at 6:20 p.m. this day, in Room 257, East Block, the Chair, the Honourable Nicholas W. Taylor, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Adams, Buchanan, P.C., Christensen, Cochrane, Eyton, Finnerty, Kelleher, P.C., Kenny, Sibbeston, Spivak and Taylor (11).
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Lynne Myers and Mollie Dunsmuir, Research Officer.
Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.
Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on May 10, 2001, the Committee proceeded to study Bill S-18 (see Issue No. 11, Tuesday, June 5, 2001 and Thursday, June 7, 2001 for full text of the Order of Reference).

Greg Orriss, Director, Bureau of Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
The witnesses made a presentation and answered questions.
Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency submitted a brief.
