The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 6:45 p.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Deputy Chair, the Honourable Joyce Fairbairn, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Gustafson, Hubley, Lawson, Mercer, Ringuette, Sparrow, St. Germain, P.C., and Tkachuk (10).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Marc Leblanc.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, February 16, 2004, the committee began to examine the issues related to the development and marketing of value-added agricultural, agri-food and forest products, on the domestic and international markets. (For a complete text of the order of Reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 5.)

WITNESSES:

From the Atlantic Beef Producers Co-operative:

Dean Baglole, Chairman;

Bryan Inglis, Member of the Board of Directors.

The Deputy Chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Baglole and Mr. Inglis made a presentation and answered questions.

The Deputy Chair made a closing statement.

At 7:50 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
