The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 6:15 p.m., this day, in room 705, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Fairbairn, P.C., Hubley, Mercer, Oliver and Ringuette (6).

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of parliament: Frédéric Forge and Marc Leblanc.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, February 16, 2004, the committee continued its examination of issues related to the development and marketing of value-added agricultural, agri-food and forest products, on the domestic and international markets. (For a complete text of the order of Reference see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 5.)

WITNESS:

Tony Stewart, Proprietor.

The Chair made an opening statement.

Mr. Stewart made a presentation and answered questions.

The Chair made a closing statement.

At 7:40 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.

The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met at 8:35 a.m., this day, in room 505, Victoria Building, the Chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Callbeck, Hubley, Lawson, Mercer, Oliver, St. Germain, P.C., and Tkachuk (7).

Pursuant to the Order of Reference adopted by the Senate on Monday, February 16, 2004, the committee continued its examination of issues related to the development and marketing of value-added agricultural, agri-food and forest products, on the domestic and international markets. Michael Presley, Director General, Food Value Chain Bureau, Food Safety and Quality, International Issues.

Mr. Koestler made a presentation.

Mr. Koestler and Mr. Presley answered questions.

At 9:42 a.m., the committee suspended.
