The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day, at 9:36 a.m., in room 2, Victoria Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable David P. Smith, P.C., presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cools, Cordy, Duffy, Fraser, Furey, Harb, Keon, Nolin, Smith, P.C., and Wallace (10).

In attendance: Michel Bédard, Analyst, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, the committee continued its examination of the matter of televising the Senate proceedings. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)

WITNESSES:

Colette Watson, President and General Manager;

Ken Stein, Chair, Board of Directors;

Robert Buchan, Corporate Secretary, Board of Directors;

Eitan Weisz, Manager of Technical Operations.

Mr. Stein and Ms. Watson made a joint presentation and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:57 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
