The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day, at 9:35 a.m., in room 356- S, Centre Block, the chair, the Honourable Donald H. Oliver, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Champagne, P.C., Cools, Cordy, Duffy, Fraser, Furey, Harb, Joyal, P.C., Losier-Cool, McCoy, Nolin, Oliver, Smith, P.C., and Wallace (14).

In attendance: Michel Bédard and Sebastian Spano, Analysts, Parliamentary Information and Research Service, Library of Parliament.

Also in attendance: The official reporters of the Senate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, the committee continued its examination of the matter of televising the Senate proceedings. (For complete text of the order of reference, see proceedings of the committee, Issue No. 14.)

Mr. Spano briefed the committee on broadcasting as practised in other legislatures' upper chambers.

At 10:39 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
