The Standing Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera this day at 4:15 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Peter M. Boehm, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Audette, Boehm, Boniface, Coyle, Deacon (Ontario), Gerba, Greene, MacDonald, Ravalia, Richards and Woo (11).
Participating in the meeting: Nadia Faucher and Brian Hermon, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 26, 2023, the committee continued its study of Canada’s interests and engagement in Africa.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that members’ staff be permitted to be in the room during the in camera meeting.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera portion of today’s meeting, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
At 5 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 5:01 p.m., the committee resumed in public.
It was agreed that, notwithstanding section 1.5.5.50 of the Financial Policy for Senate Committees, the committee ask the Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration, that a member of the chair's staff be eligible to travel with the committee outside of Canada.
It was agreed that the following special study budget application for travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a fact-finding mission for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, be approved for submission to the Standing Committee on Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration.
At 5:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
