The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 9 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Paula Simons, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Burey, Cotter, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Duncan, Klyne, Petitclerc and Simons (7).

Participating in the meeting: Offah Obale and Joanne Markle LaMontagne, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

Canadian Permafrost Association:

Kumari Karunaratne, President (by videoconference);

Territorial Agrifood Association:

Janet Dean, Executive Director (by videoconference).

Randy Lamb, Brandon Drost, Kumari Karunaratne, Michelle Blade and Janet Dean each made a statement and answered questions.
