The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 6:30 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Audette, Black, Cotter, Dagenais, Dalphond, McNair, Oh, Petitclerc and Simons (9).

Participating in the meeting: Joanne Markle LaMontagne, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

WITNESSES (by videoconference):

AgResearch:

Alec Mackay, Principal Scientist, Digital Agriculture.

As individuals:

Hugh Harley, Professor of Practice, Global Economy, University of Sydney;

Mel Poulton, Owner/operator of a sheep and beef farm business, New Zealand.

Hugh Harley and Ravi Naidu each made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:24 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:29 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mel Poulton and Alec Mackay each made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:11 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
