The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 6:30 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Burey, Cotter, Dalphond, Klyne, McNair, Oh and Simons (8).

Participating in the meeting: Joanne Markle LaMontagne, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, the committee continued its study of the status of soil health in Canada.

WITNESSES:

Canadian Nursery and Landscape Association:

Alan White, Treasurer and Climate Change Adaptation Chair.

Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance:

Phil Paxton, Past President (by videoconference).

Soil Health Institute:

Cristine Morgan, Chief Scientific Officer.

Nature Conservancy of Canada:

Melanie Bos, Agriculture Policy Manager (by videoconference).

Acadian Plant Health:

David Hiltz, Director, Global Regulatory Affairs (by videoconference).

Alan White and Phil Paxton each made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:27 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:30 p.m., the committee resumed.

Christine Morgan, Melanie Bos and David Hiltz each made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
