The Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry met this day at 6:29 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Robert Black, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Black, Burey, Cotter, Dalphond, Klyne, McNair, Oh and Simons (8).
Other senators present: The Honourable Senators McBean and Robinson (2).
Participating in the meeting: Joanne Markle LaMontagne, Analyst, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Friday, April 21, 2023, the committee continued its consideration of the government response to the sixth report (interim) of the Standing Senate Committee on Agriculture and Forestry, entitled Treading Water: The impact of and response to the 2021 British Columbia floods, tabled in the Senate on October 27, 2022.
WITNESSES:
Environment and Climate Change Canada:
Cecile Siewe, Assistant Deputy Minister, Meteorological Service of Canada;
Wayne Jenkinson, Executive Director, National Hydrological Services.
Global Affairs Canada:
Niall Cronin, Executive Director, U.S. Transboundary Affairs.
Cecile Siewe and Niall Cronin each made a statement and, together with Wayne Jenkinson, answered questions.
At 7:22 p.m., the committee suspended.
At 7:25 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-6(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera portion of today’s meeting, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
At 8:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
