The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy met this day at 11:30 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Galvez, Gignac, Loffreda, Massicotte, Smith, Wallin, Woo and Yussuff (10).

Participating in the meeting: Mehrab Kiarsi and Adriane Yong, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, December 16, 2021, the committee continued its study of matters relating to banking, trade and commerce generally.

Norma Kozhaya, Vice-President, Research and Chief Economist (by videoconference).

Stéphane Paquet, President and Chief Executive Officer (by videoconference).

Frédéric Bouchard, Dean, Faculty of arts and science and Full Professor, Department of Philosophy, Université de Montréal (by videoconference).

Robert Gagné and Norma Kozhaya each made a statement and answered questions.

At 12:30 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:33 p.m., the committee resumed.

Frédéric Bouchard and Stéphane Paquet each made a statement and answered questions.

At 1:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
