The Standing Senate Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy met in camera this day at 4:16 p.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Pamela Wallin, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Gignac, Loffreda, Marshall, Marwah, Massicotte, Ringuette, Smith, Wallin and Yussuff (11).
Participating in the meeting: Mehrab Kiarsi and Adriane Yong, analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 27, 2023, the committee continued its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in Clauses 118 to 122 concerning cryptoasset mining in Part 2, and Divisions 1, 2, 6, 7, 26, 33 and 37 of Part 4 of Bill C-47, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 28, 2023.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee met in camera to discuss a draft report.
It was agreed that senators’ staff be permitted to remain in the room during the in camera meeting.
It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of today’s in camera meeting, that a copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or staff; and that the transcription be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed that the draft report, as amended, be adopted, and that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the report taking into consideration this meeting’s discussions, and with any necessary editorial, grammatical and translation changes required.
It was agreed that the chair be authorized to table the report in the Senate or with the Clerk of the Senate at the earliest opportunity.
At 4:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
