The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met this day at 6:30 p.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Paul J. Massicotte, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Galvez, Hartling, Massicotte and Wells (Newfoundland and Labrador) (4).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senator Youance (1).

Participating in the meeting: Jesse Good and Avalon Jennings, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 24, 2022, the committee continued its study on emerging issues related to the committee’s mandate. (Topic: Contaminated Sites in the North)

Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada:

Environment and Climate Change Canada:

Nicole Cote, Director General, Environmental Protection Operations;

Seth Cain, Director, Contaminated Sites Division.

Transport Canada:

Ross Ezzeddin, Director General, Air and Marine Programs;

Adele Cooper, Director, Environmental Management.

Martin Dompierre, Nicole Cote and Rob Wright each made a statement and, together with Kimberley Leach, Marie-Pierre Grondin, Georgina Lloyd, Ross Ezzeddin and Adele Cooper, answered questions.

At 7:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
