The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 6:43 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Busson, Cordy, Manning, McPhedran and Ravalia (5).

Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, the committee continued its examination of Canada’s seal populations and seal harvest.

WITNESSES:

Fisheries and Oceans Canada:

Todd Williams, Acting Director General, Fisheries and Resource Management, Fisheries and Harbor Management Sector;

Ken Smedbol, Acting Senior Director, Science, Maritimes Region;

Nell (Cornelia) den Heyer, Research Scientist, Population Ecology Division, Science, Maritimes Region (by videoconference).

Todd Williams made a statement and, together with Ken Smedbol and Nell (Cornelia) den Heyer, answered questions.

At 8:02 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
