The Standing Senate Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met this day at 9:03 a.m., in room W110, 1 Wellington St., the chair, the Honourable Fabian Manning, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Busson, Cuzner, Deacon (Nova Scotia), Kutcher, Manning, Petten and Ravalia (7).
Participating in the meeting: Daniele Lafrance and Kelsey Brennan, analysts, Library of Parliament; Monica Granados, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, the committee continued its examination on ocean carbon sequestration and its use in Canada.

West Coast Environmental Law Association:
Stephanie Hewson, Staff Lawyer.

Paul Snelgrove, Research Professor, Department of Ocean Sciences and Biology Department, Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Tom Heintzman, Stephanie Hewson and Paul Snelgrove each made a statement and answered questions.
At 10:01 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 10:07 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that the committee allow the transcription of this in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk for consultation by committee members and/or staff, and that transcription be destroyed by the clerk when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of the parliamentary session.
At 11:01 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
