The Standing Committee on Rules, Procedures and the Rights of Parliament met this day at 9 a.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Diane Bellemare, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Batters, Bellemare, Black, Busson, Cordy, Deacon (Ontario), Dean, Greene, Massicotte, Petitclerc, Ringuette, Saint-Germain and Wells (13).

Participating in the meeting: Erin Virgint, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to rule 12-7(2)(a), the committee continued its consideration of possible amendments to the Rules.

WITNESSES:

Senate of Canada:

Gérald Lafrenière, Interim Clerk of the Senate and Clerk of the Parliaments and Chief Legislative Services Officer;

Till Heyde, Clerk Assistant, Chamber Operations and Procedure Office.

Gérald Lafrenière made a statement and, together with Till Heyde, answered questions.

At 9:31 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 9:38 a.m., the committee resumed.

The committee discussed a draft agenda (future business).

At 10:28 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
