The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 6:47 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Julie Miville-Dechêne, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo, Dasko, Klyne, Miville-Dechêne, Quinn and Simons (6).

Participating in the meeting: Jed Chong and Khamla Heminthavong, analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on the impacts of climate change on critical infrastructure in the transportation and communications sectors and the consequential impacts on their interdependencies.

Alison Perrin, Senior Research Professional, Northern Adaptation and Resilience, Yukon University;

Jeff Birchall, Associate Professor, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alberta (by videoconference);

Kees Lokman, Associate Professor and Chair, Landscape Architecture, University of British Columbia (by videoconference);

Tristan Pearce, Associate Professor of Geography and Canada Research Chair in Cumulative Impacts of Environmental Change, University of Northern British Columbia (by videoconference);

Eric Rapaport, Associate Professor, School of Planning, Dalhousie University (by videoconference);

Clarence Woudsma, Associate Professor, School of Planning, University of Waterloo (by videoconference).

Alison Perrin, Jeff Birchall and Kees Lokman each made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:48 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:50 p.m., the committee resumed.

Tristan Pearce, Eric Rapaport and Clarence Woudsma each made a statement and answered questions.

At 8:39 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
