The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 9:05 a.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Margo Greenwood, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Francis, Greenwood, Karetak-Lindell, McCallum, McPhedran, Pate, Prosper, Sorensen and Tannas (10).

Participating in the meeting: Sara Fryer and Allison Lowenger, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-2, An Act to amend the Indian Act (new registration entitlements).

WITNESSES:

Ontario Native Women's Association:

Cora McGuire-Cyrette, Chief Executive Officer (by videoconference).

Snuneymuxw First Nation:

Joan Brown, Syuwén’ct Director (by videoconference).

As individuals:

Jeremy Matson;

Lynda Price, Independent consultant and former Chief of the Ulkatcho First Nation (by videoconference).

Cora McGuire-Cyrette and Jeremy Matson each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:01 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:10 a.m., the committee resumed.

Joan Brown and Lynda Price each made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:06 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 11:07 a.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera, to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 11:15 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
