The Standing Senate Committee on Indigenous Peoples met this day at 6:51 p.m., in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Margo Greenwood, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Audette, Clement, Francis, Greenwood, McNair, McPhedran, Pate, Prosper, Sorensen and Tannas (10).
Participating in the meeting: Sara Fryer and Allison Lowenger, Analysts, Library of Parliament.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-2, An Act to amend the Indian Act (new registration entitlements).
The committee discussed observations to be appended to the report on Bill S-2.
After debate, it was agreed that the observations prepared and circulated by the Honourable Senator Prosper, as modified, be appended to the report.
The Honourable Senator McNair informed the committee of his abstention.
After debate, it was agreed that the observations prepared by the Honourable Senator Francis be appended to the report.
The Honourable Senator McNair informed the committee of his abstention.
It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of the observations being appended to the report, in both official languages, taking into consideration today’s discussion and with any necessary editorial, grammatical or translation changes as required.
It was agreed that the chair reports Bill S-2, with amendments and observations, to the Senate, in both official languages.
At 7:13 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
