The Standing Senate Committee on Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources met in camera this day at 6:32 p.m., in room B30, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Joan Kingston, presiding.
Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnot, Aucoin, Coyle, Fridhandler, Galvez, Kingston, Lewis, McCallum, Miville-Dechêne, Verner, P.C. and Wells (Newfoundland and Labrador) (11).
Participating in the meeting: Émilie Doyon and Jesse Good, Analysts, Library of Parliament; Monica Granados, Communications Officer, Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the committee continued its study of climate change and Canada’s oil and gas industry.
Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed a draft report.
It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording and/or transcription of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and/or their staff, and that the audio recording and/or transcription be destroyed by the clerk of the committee when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.
It was agreed that the committee does not pursue its study of climate change and Canada’s oil and gas industry.
At 7:49 p.m., pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the committee continued its study of the Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore petroleum industry.
It was agreed that the chair would request an extension on the date of the final report in relation to its study on Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore petroleum industry from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026, and that the committee be permitted, notwithstanding usual practices, to deposit its reports on this study with the Clerk of the Senate if the Senate is not then sitting, and that the reports be deemed to have been tabled in the Senate.
At 7:51 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
