The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 4:14 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Rosemary Moodie, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnold, Bernard, Boudreau, Brazeau, Greenwood, Hay, McPhedran, Moodie, Muggli, Osler, Petitclerc and Senior (12).

Participating in the meeting: Laura Blackmore and Diana Ambrozas, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the committee continued its consideration of Bill S-202, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (warning label on alcoholic beverages).

WITNESSES:

Toronto Public Health:

Dr. Michelle Murti, Medical Officer of Health (by videoconference).

Vancouver Coastal Health:

Dr. Brandon Yau, Medical Health Officer (by videoconference).

Middlesex-London Health Unit:

Linda Stobo, Program Manager, Social Marketing and Health System Partnerships (by videoconference).

Coalition of Canadian Independent Craft Brewers:

Brad Goddard, Chair of the Board of Directors.

As an individual:

Dan Malleck, Professor and Chair, Department of Health Sciences, Brock University.

Michelle Murti, Brandon Yau and Linda Stobo each made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:12 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 5:16 p.m., the committee resumed.

Brad Goddard and Dan Malleck each made a statement and answered questions.

At 6:10 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 6:12 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 6:25 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
