The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met in camera this day at 9 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Larry W. Smith, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnold, Aucoin, Cormier, Dalphond, Dasko, Hay, Lewis, Quinn, Simons, Smith and Wilson (11).

Pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee discussed in camera a draft agenda (future business).

It was agreed that, for the duration of the session, each committee member be allowed to have one staff person present at in camera meetings, unless otherwise agreed to by the committee.

It was agreed that the committee allow the audio recording of the in camera meeting today, that one copy be kept with the clerk of the committee for consultation by committee members and staff, and that the audio recording be destroyed by the clerk of the committee when authorized to do so by the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, but no later than at the end of this parliamentary session.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for an order of reference to examine and report on the local services provided by the CBC/Radio-Canada.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for an order of reference to examine and report on copper wire theft and its impacts on the telecommunications industry.

It was agreed that the chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for an order of reference to examine and report on such issues as may arise from time to time relating to transport and communications generally.

It was agreed that the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure be empowered to approve the final version of an order of reference to examine and report on the Canada Labour Code, and that the Chair be authorized to seek authority from the Senate for said study.

At 10:16 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
