The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 6:45 p.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Arnold, Aucoin, Cormier, Miville-Dechêne, Simons and Wilson (6).

Participating in the meeting: Geneviève Gosselin and Marion Ménard, Analysts, Library of Parliament.

The clerk informed the committee of the unavoidable absences of the chair and deputy chair and presided over the election of an acting chair.

The Honourable Senator Miville-Dechêne moved that the Honourable Senator Wilson be the acting chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.

The acting chair took the chair.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, October 30, 2025, the committee continued its study on the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in the information and communication technology sector.

WITNESSES:

Centre for International Governance Innovation:

Aaron Shull, Research Director.

Fédération culturelle canadienne-française:

Sven Buridans, Director, Innovation and Digital Partnerships.

Communications Security Establishment Canada:

Bridget Walshe, Associate Head, Canadian Centre for Cyber Security;

Joshua Kilberg, Senior Director.

As an individual:

Dan Brown, Professor, Computer Science, University of Waterloo (by videoconference).

Aaron Shull, Sven Buridans and Dan Brown each made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:49 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:52 p.m., the committee resumed.

Bridget Walshe made a statement and, together with Joshua Kilberg, answered questions.

At 8:47 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
