Biography

The Honourable Senator Linda Frum was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2009 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.  She represents the Province of Ontario. Currently she sits as a member of the Senate Standing Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology; Rules, Procedures, and the Rights of Parliament; Conflict of Interest for Senators and the Special Committee on Senate Modernization.  Senator Frum also serves as Caucus Chair for the Senate Conservatives. 

She is a former contributing editor to Maclean’s Magazine and was a columnist with the National Post from 1998-2002, and then again from 2006-2007. As a writer for the National Post she interviewed many notable world figures, politicians and thinkers. She has authored two books, Linda Frum’s Guide to Canadian Universities and Barbara Frum: A Daughter’s Memoir. Both books were Canadian bestsellers. She is also a Gemini-Award winning documentarian.

Senator Frum is an active member of the Toronto community. She is a member of the board of Mount Sinai Hospital, former vice chair of the board of Upper Canada College; an honorary patron of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and a Past Chair of the Women’s Division of the United Jewish Appeal. She is a past board member of the Canada Israel Committee, the Art Gallery of Ontario Foundation, and the Ontario Arts Council. She is a recipient of the Golda Meir Leadership Award from the State of Israel bonds. In 2010, Yeshiva University awarded her a Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa. In 2014 she was inducted into the Havergal College Hall of Distinction and received the Rothschild Humanitarian Award from Shaare Zedec Hospital. She is an Honourary Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and serves as a member of the international Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation Committee.  Married to Howard Sokolowski (O Ont.) she is the proud mother and step-mother to five children and two grandchildren.
