Commemorative Parchment signed by Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla

This commemorative parchment was signed by King Charles III and Queen Camilla during their visit to Ottawa in May 2025, during which the King opened Canada’s 45th Parliament by reading the Speech from the Throne, marking only the third time a Canadian monarch has performed this duty.

The document, hand lettered on calligraphy paper, rests within a handmade red frame. A maple leaf, cut from gold-coloured goatskin leather, emblazons the top of the frame. The badge of the Parliament of Canada appears on the bottom. The vertical columns, crafted from marbled paper and leather strips, evoke architectural columns.

The calligraphy was executed by Julie Richer, Executive Assistant to Senator Tony Loffreda and a long-time Senate employee who has served as the institution’s calligrapher for nearly four decades. She was among the recipients of the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025.
